영천 성당은 1936년 1월 1일 용평 본당에서 분리되어 설립되었으며, 초대 신부로 프루와드보 레이몬드(Raymundus Froideraux) 신부가 부임하였다. 프루와드보 신부는 파리 외방 전교회 신부였다가 부임하였으며, 성당의 부재를 유감으로 여겨 성당 설계를 한 후 스위스로부터 성당 건립 기금을 기부받아서 1936년 3월 성당 신축 공사를 진행하였다. 영천 성당은 벽돌재의 70여 평 건물을 축조하였으며, 1936년 10월 완공하였다.Yeongcheon Cathedral was established separately from Yongpyeong Main Hall on January 1, 1936, and the first priest, Raymondus Froideraux, was appointed.
